We will compile and produce targeted research to assist mainstream society in understanding the plights of refugees both in Australia and in their homelands.  The Australian Refugees Group will lobby local members of parliaments, in major and marginal seats, counsellors, (local governments – listed and non listed refugee welcoming Zones), as well as addressing the general public through public meetings and community gatherings. The Australian Refugees Group was developed by a number of  Australian and former refugees from around the world, in response to a growing need in Australia to bridge the gaps in understanding between former refugees /Asylum Seekers and Australians. The plight and untold stories of refugees and people fleeing violent conflicts, civil wars, and persecution from oppressive regimes are most often ignored or not heard at all. The experiences of refugees might include torture, sexual assault, witnessing violence, sudden arrests and disappearances of friends and relatives, forced conscription into armies or militias, deprivations of food, safe water and medical attention, dangerous journeys to safety, and dangerous stays in refugee camps and detention. Australian Refugees Group seeks to raise awareness about the plights and stories of refugees in Australia, and the strength and resilience that they bring to Australia. Our approach is geared towards helping mainstream Australian community understand the sufferings of refugees and people fleeing from violent conflicts and persecution around the world. By actively engaging with Australian society on refugee issues, will not only help change community perception but also help generate more understanding, compassion and empathy towards refugees. We aim to build community support to highlight the plight of refugees and liaise with relevant authorities in galvanizing community awareness in Australia. The Australia Refugees Group seeks to raise awareness about the plight and the resilient stories of refugees in Australia. Our approach will be geared towards helping mainstream Australian communities understand the plights of refugees and people fleeing from violent conflicts and persecutions

Refugees contribution to the community and the economy: Refugees and the economy: Australian Refugees Group will highlight the positive contributions refugees are having on Australian economy, not only sharing stories, becoming just a bleeding heart.    Former refugees / Asylum Seekers contribute greatly to the Australian economy in a number of areas, in the health sector where they are filling much needed roles, working as nurses, doctors, GPs, personal care assistance, former refugees are bringing their experience into the social welfare sector.
